As we progressed with the inspections, we were waylaid by some concerned wanaichi who informed us of illegal mining taking place in Tiira town council and the effects of the shafts of different landlords and blasting has greatly destroyed houses meant for commercial and settlement purposes.

Mining in urban centres is prohibited by the law and we strongly condemn anybody indulging in the same anywhere in the country.

Its also important to note and know that Land rights dont give one the right to mine.
Anybody interested in joining the mining sector should follow the legal procedures and get licensed by the Ministry.

I instructed that immediate halting of all mining activities in Tiira town council and requested the local leadership to help the affected personnel get compensation from the Landlords.

The Mineral Police is also on the look out to arrest and bring to book anybody that is found to be illegally mining in an urban centre!.
